HISTORY

The Miners State Bank was opened in 1912 in the Minckler Building on Third Avenue , Iron River , organized as a state banking association, under the laws of the State of Michigan .

Building contracts were awarded and the new bank was constructed in 1913 at 312 West Genesee Street . This continues to be the bank's main location.

Early immigrants settled in Iron County to work in the underground iron ore mines, the major employer of the area. The bank was reorganized in 1932, following bank closure, but when it reopened, it maintained the same name, thus having the oldest name of any bank in Iron County .

In 1966 the bank purchased two adjacent buildings west of their building, which were dismantled to make room for a new undercover drive-in banking facility. The building adjacent to the east side of the bank was purchased in 1992 and remodeled into offices and a lower level data processing center.

In 1996, a log cabin grocery store branch was built inside Angeli's Central Market at Riverside Plaza , dubbed "The MSB Cabin". At this convenient location, customers enjoy extended banking hours which are available to them seven days a week.

In October of 2003 the Houghton Office was opened, offering full service banking. The building was designed to resemble a mine shaft in order to compliment the spirit and architecture of the area. The mining history of the Copper Country is so very similar to that of Iron County.

Mining was phased out many years ago, with the bank going on to serve tourism, logging, retail, manufacturing, agricultural and service industries, while still maintaining their original name, as a tribute to their early customers.

The Miners State Bank is proud of its heritage. Characterized by friendly, personal service and local decision making, the Miners State Bank continues to play an important role in the economic growth and social welfare of its market area. It is their pledge to the communities they serve, that they will continue to offer the same friendly, efficient service their customers have come to expect and enjoy.
