Sharing your past, securing your future
The Miners State Bank was opened in 1912 in the Minckler Building on Third Ave, Iron River, and organized as a state banking association under the laws of the State of Michigan. Building contracts were awarded and a new bank was constructed in 1913 at 312 West Genesee Street. This continues to be the bank’s main location, maintaining the oldest name of any bank in Iron County.

In 1966 the bank purchased two adjacent buildings west of their building, which were dismantled to make room for a new, undercover drive-in banking facility. The building adjacent on the east side of the bank was purchased in 1993 and remodeled into offices and a lower level data processing center.
In October of 2003, the Houghton Branch was opened, offering full service banking. The building was designed to resemble a mine shaft in order to compliment the spirit and architecture of the area. Then in 2007, the Ripley Branch was purchased to serve our customers in the Hancock area.
In 2009, the South Range and the Ontonagon Branches were purchased, giving The Miners State Bank a larger presence in the Upper Peninsula.
The mining history of the Copper Country, Ontonagon County and that of Iron County date back to the early immigrants of the Upper Peninsula. They came to work in the underground iron ore mines, or the Keweenaw copper mines, the major employers in those areas.
Although the mining industry was phased out many years ago, The Miners State Bank has flourished by serving the current industries of tourism, logging, retail, manufacturing, agricultural and service industries, while still maintaining our original name as a tribute to those early customers.
The Miners State Bank is proud of its heritage, and is characterized by friendly, personal service and local decision making. The Miners State Bank continues to play an important role in the economic growth and social welfare of its market area. It is our pledge to the communities we serve, that we will continue to offer the same friendly, efficient service our customers have come to expect and enjoy.
